About KC

After two decades in the sports and entertainment industry with the Vancouver Canucks & Vancouver Grizzlies, Karen Christiansen, known as "KC" to her friends and colleagues, launched her event planning business in the Fall of 2016.

She directed the in-arena entertainment for more than 250 Canucks games at Rogers Arena, produced the Canucks for Kids Fund Dice & Ice Gala, CFKF Telethon, Jake Milford Canucks Charity Invitational, and staged the ceremonial puck drop for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee visit.

Since starting her own business, Karen has had the pleasure of working with a diverse group of clients on a wide range of projects.  Some recent events include the Vancouver Police Foundation Charity Classic, BC Sports Hall of Fame Induction Gala, JCC Sports Dinner, North Shore Waterfront Gala, CKNW Kid’s Fund Pink Shirt Day Luncheon and Take A Swing Golf Tournament, and the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation Luncheon and Golf Classic.

Karen is well known for her fierce sense of loyalty, poise under pressure and being a selfless teammate. She loves the game of basketball, practices yoga, hikes in the North Shore Mountains, and has a weakness for dark chocolate.

Testimonials

Karen came highly recommended to us from a few Board/Committee members and one of our new staff members. We proposed our first-ever charity golf tournament (so we could do something in this COVID era) and Karen was top of the list in terms of the person to hire. I completely understand why. Not only is Karen extremely professional, ruthlessly efficient and flexible, she has the benefit of extensive experience and diverse clients to come up with interesting and innovative recommendations and solutions. Being able to put our trust in someone to manage our first-ever event was such a relief as we were able to focus on sales. She works effectively with all stakeholders - donors, Board, staff, the venues and has lots of creative solutions to figure out a way to "yes". Perhaps most important of all, Karen has a great sense of humour and is just fun to work with. We won't do another golf tournament without her...and frankly, I'm not sure we'd do any big event again without her. Highly recommend.

I have worked with Karen for two Heart-Mind Conferences - each with over 500 people. Karen is incredibly talented at what she does. She is knowledgeable, positive, and a highly productive and creative problem-solver. Karen has a strong network of relationships and connections she can tap into when we need additional help and suppliers, and she is happy to roll up her sleeves and do whatever it takes to make sure the event is successful. She is unflappable, and so wonderfully easy to work with!

I’ve been fortunate to have worked with Karen over the last few years on a number of Vancouver Canucks Alumni charitable initiatives. For each of these initiatives, Karen’s creativity, dedication, attention to detail and professionalism led to successful outcomes.  Her input and work experience were without a doubt a major asset for each of the working Committees.

I know that my comments are equally shared by all those who have worked with her plus from the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Board of Directors.

About 3 years ago, our committee was looking for an event planner to assist with the organization of the North Shore Waterfront Gala and a friend recommended Karen Christiansen. From the first moment that I met Karen, I knew she was exactly the resource we were looking for. She had extensive event planning experience, is professional, enthusiastic and hyper-organized (my favorite quality). Karen’s skills and experience has helped us organize a first class event which raises significant funds for our beneficiaries. On top of that, she is fun to work with! I think I owe my friend a glass of wine.

I had the pleasure of working with Karen for a number of years when she was in her role as the Director of Charitable & Corporate Events at Canucks Sports & Entertainment. Karen knows how to motivate a team to achieve optimal results. She is personable, passionate, creative, open to new ideas and a pleasure to work with.

Karen is one of those rare standout talents in the event field. I had the pleasure of first hiring Karen into the professional sport world when she interned with the Vancouver Grizzlies of the NBA. I was given the opportunity to work with her again for 5 years when she was a key leader on my team at the Vancouver Canucks/Canucks for Kids Fund. Karen is able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines, creatively find solutions for event challenges, prepare outstanding critical path documents and deliver excellence in the final product. Karen brought multiple departments together to ensure key goals were established and that outcomes were surpassed. She was one person who loved a project debrief and it was her mission to always improve. As a team member or a leader, Karen earns my highest recommendation.
